IWTV Independent Champion Orange Cassidy is All Elite - What Happens Now?
Earlier today news broke that the current IWTV Independent Wrestling Champion, "Freshly Squeezed" Orange Cassidy, has signed with All Elite Wrestling. The news caused a major uproar on Twitter where "Orange Cassidy" became a top trend and fans celebrated and discussed what the future will hold for both Cassidy and the IWTV Independent Championship.
First things first - congratulations are in order. The only person to hold the IWTV Independent Championship twice, Cassidy has dominated the title scene for the totality of 2019, defending the championship in more promotions and states than any previous title holder. IWTV is proud to have him as our champion and we have no doubt that his low energy, minimal effort style will excite AEW fans.
That said, Cassidy's contractual status with AEW does create a major dilemma for IWTV officials and leaves us with a serious question to address - what happens if Orange Cassidy's time on the indies comes to a close and he is still the Independent Wrestling Champion?
There is no obvious answer to this question, but here is what what we know.
Orange Cassidy will defend the IWTV Championship against Shawn From Michael's at XSW's Show Of Honor: For Love Of Money on Friday, 8/23 live on IWTV. In addition to this title defense, Cassidy will be a part of IWTV's first West Coast swing at the end of September, competing at Ground Zero's Mama Said Knock You Out on Saturday, 9/28 from Imperial Beach, California and the following day (Sunday, 9/29) in Portland, Oregon at Prestige Wrestling's Roseland event. Both events will stream live on IWTV.
In addition, IWTV officials have begun work on a contingency plan should Cassidy still be champion when his exclusivity with AEW kicks in. Stay tuned to this space for more news regarding Orange Cassidy and the IWTV Independent Championship in the coming days.
