Weekend Wrap-Up - Kylie Rae Wins The Big One In Freelance Wrestling's 2019 Debut

It's Monday which means it's time to review the news and notes from the weekend that was in indie wrestling.

  • Kylie Rae defeated Isaias Velazquez to become the new Freelance Wrestling Champion in the main event of the promotions 2019 debut show, Sleepless in Chicago, which aired live here on IWTV. "Smiley Kylie," who has emerged as the most beloved figure in the Chicago wrestling scene over the course of the last year, answered the open challenge of Velazquez who has defeated a who's who of the Freelance roster and broader independent wrestling scene over the course of his two separate reigns as the promotions champion. The card also saw Craig Mitchell emerge victorious in a wild scramble match, Robert Anthony defeat Tyler Bateman and more. Sleepless In Chicago is available here.
  • Black Label Pro's BLP Unplugged event took place on Saturday afternoon in Crown Point, Indiana and saw the crowning of a new Indiana State Champion as Warhorse Jake Parnell defeated Kobe Durst to win the title. The show also saw Sadkampf (Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku) best the Work Horsemen (James Drake and Anthony Henry) in a match that was widely praised by fans in attendance.   • Alpha-1 Wrestling's Super Slam Sunday event took place in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on Sunday. The show saw IMPACT Wrestling Champion Johnny Alpha successfully defend the title against MJF and Ethan Page in a triple threat match and a unique four-way, two fall main event between Sami Callihan, Justin Sane, Josh Alexander and Kobe Durst that saw Justin Sane win the Outer Limits Title in fall one and Kobe Durst successfully retain his Alpha Male Title in fall two.   • Women's Wresting Revolution's Widowmaker event will air live here on IWTV from Deer Park, Long Island, New York on Saturday, February 23 and we learned more about the card over the weekend. In addition to the WWR debut of Lisa Marie Varon (known in the WWE as Victoria), the card will see the WWR return of Karissa Rivera, Riley Shepard make her first apperance in the promotion, plus Veda Scott, Kris Stadtlander, Allie Kat, Skylar and more. IWTV News will cover more announcements regarding Widowmaker in the coming days.
  • CHIKARA announced a Golden Dream match for their Once Upon A Beginning event that takes place on April 5 in Jersey City, New Jersey as part of The Collective. The trios contest will feature six of the greatest Young Lions Cup Champions in the promotions history as Jigsaw, Super Thunderfrog and Razerhawk take on Hallowicked, Arik Cannon and Hermit Crab. Once Upon A Beginning will also see The Colony take on F.I.S.T and A-Kid battle Air Wolf. CHIKARA's 20th season kicks off this Sunday afternoon at 2pm EST when National Pro Wrestling Day airs live from Lancaster, Pennsylvania here on IWTV.
